These are a bell-shaped orchid species - Galeandra baueri - that ranges in Latin America from Mexico to Boliva. I bought these last January as bare-root divisions - I just love it when I get a beautiful surprise like this!

d70, Nikkor 28-105 @85mm in macro mode, off-camera flash w/softbox, handheld, ISO 200, 1/60s, f/9, cropped about 10% all around, minor clone work, levels and USM

A really wonderful looking plant/flowers and a fine composition.

Best Regards

Very nice shot. Very three dimensional and painterly. Looks like I can reach into the image and grab one. The very soft "ripple" of the background goes well with the similar texture in the orchids

Maureen these are exceptionally beautiful orchids. I am sure this was a welcome surprise as they developed.

This image portrays these beauties wonderfully. Nothing to nit here!

Maureen,

Sorry I didn't comment earlier, I've been having serious computer problems. Think I got most of the problems resolved plus doubled my ram and things are pretty much back to normal.
I just wanted let you know how much I liked this one. I think one of your best florals to date. I really like that you were able to get three flowers in the compositon. The flowers are really well illuminated and stand out nicely against that perfect background.

Lighting, composition, depth of field ... perfect!
A subtle but beautiful flower well captured.

Splendid!! I don't do much flowerphotography myself (I think I have four or five in my portfolio at most) and most flower photos don't move me very much. But I do like this one. You have really made something special of this one I think. The composition and lighting is really very good and I LOVE the background with the faint texture and lines and the colours that go so well with the flower (what did you use for that??). These things make this image much more a piece of art than just a flowerpic.
