Anna's Hummingbird

Shot in January in Newport Backbay Lagoon, Ca. I really like the colors, the head turn and the open beak in this shot. I wish the feet were more in focus along with the branch. I was actually above the hummingbird shooting slightly down on it which is how I got the green background. Shot very early in the morning on an overcast day. Comments and sugestions welcomed.

Nice job getting the dof you did, David. Those long beaks make it tough and you got the entire beak and the head in nice and crisp. I like the pose the head turn and the nice reflections from the gorget. :toast:

I'm not sure what happened on this post but the colors are very muted compared to the original. I went back and looked at my original 200MB version on my computer and it is very vibrant with the colors. Can someone tell me what might have happened here. This looks nothing like the original photo. Thanks for your help. Dave

This is usually the result of a color space problem. If you shoot in Adobe RGB space you need to covert to sRGB at some point before posting your image.

What color space is your camera set to?

What steps are in your work flow?

What software application are you using?

The colors, the sharpness in the head and eyes, the interesting head turn with the beak slightly open, and the super clean background make this image a winner in my mind. Very Well done. :toast: :toast:

In regards to your color question, I would check the areas that Rich D. suggested.(He really knows his stuff). I have seen this happen from time to time and an incorrect color space is usually the problem.

I love the fat little belly! Colors are great as is the open beak. Largeversion shows a bit of noise in the lower body easily fixed with some NR. I use Noiseware Proffessional by Imagenomic

Stunning image David. There is just so much to look at and explore in this image. The feather detail and colors are just magnificent. Well done on the getting the DoF exactly right here as well.

David,
This is a great shot, taken very close to our home. I have not seen an Anna when walking there, and this one is beautiful. Looking forward to shooting again with you. I learned a lot.
