Canon 20D, Canon 500mm f4 & Canon 1.4X Extender, Gitzo 1548/Arca B1.
1/250 sec @ f6.3, ISO 400.

Here in the UK Roe deer are particularly shy and nervous creatures, making this particular close encounter all the more special.

All comments always welcome and appreciated.

Very nice image. I like the way the plants even the OOF ones frame the deers head. Good detail in the deer's face. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Justin,
I really like this. You have nailed the focus on the deer and there is just enough of the surrounding flowers in focus to make it perfect.

I also tend (for right or wrong) to look at images and ask would they sell in my art show booth. My experience is that wildlife photos will, but really only if you specialize in them, which I do not. So why am I going here? Because this is an outstanding exception. It has a cute factor and if It were mine it would definitely find a place on the wall of my canopy. I might be tempted to crop it to vertical if it left enough room on the left side. Great catch, well done.

Nicely seen. I like the colors. Maybe a little cropped off of the left side would make a better photo.

Very nice! I like the comp and the way the deers head pops up out of the sea of purple flowers. My only complaint is I would like it better if both her ears were oriented to the front. Is that heather she is standing in?

I absolutely love this one. I love how you framed the the deer with the plants. The way you composed this shot really makes the deer pops up out of the surrounding colorful plants. Well done.

How wonderful to get this deer in such a beautifully colored setting! I think I would experiment with crops, however, removing some of the mostly oof left side...perhaps with a thin crop to 4x5 ratio or even cropping to vertical. You have really nice depth of field from nose tip to back of head and the detail looks excellent.

This is a really beautiful portrait. I love the flowers all around and the different layers of depth. In a perfect world I would like to see the other ear facing the camera too, although saying that, I suppose it shows the deer's constant awareness - listening out for whats happening in its environment..

Beautiful Justin! That colorful vegetation adds so much. Also an excellent and very interesting head pose with great sharpness and a good use of selective focus. Great work! :toast:

Thanks for the comments.
I managed to get some further frames with both ears forward and I was fortunate enough to have the oppurtunity of taking a number of other images in portrait format.

Excellent shot, sharp and crisp where it needs to be. I like the image as is and would not crop anything. Way to go.
