Another Wolf from Germany, this time we caught the wolves at feeding time (meaning they drop a carcass in the area). Usually there is a little scuffle between pack members (lower ranking wolves trying to eat before their turn) but this time the wolves where not very hungry until this guy started to drag the carcass around the enclosure. When he took a rest I decided to take a shot, he looks so proud
Apologies if anyone finds the boar with legs up a little too graphic.
Next week; a wolf at full speed ahead
Tech: Canon 7d, 400mm @ f5.6, iso 1250 & 1/400th. TK's actions and layers in PS. (still having some trouble with the correct sharpening, how does this one look?)
note that (c) means this is a captive subject

Great expression! It reminds me of my dog when he's found a bone. The snow detail on the wolf is great. I don't mind the boar, I think it adds interest! Great work!

Sharpening looks good to me here Jorne. How do you sharpen? I sharpen the resized jpegs with either high pass, smart sharpen and sometimes a touch opf USM (or combinations of these), but most of the time selectively applied. IMO each image needs individual shapening attention, no automated sharpening will be good for all images.
looking forward to your speedy wolf!
Vincent: i used to use smart sharpen, now I'm using Tk's sharpening action's because they give me way more control. Stil I feel animals with lots of fine fur are difficult to get right.

Sharpening looks a touch overdone on the larger version (the head in particular). Love the action pinned back ears and "smile".
Where in Germany is this?
Good caption on a solid shot! Your exposure looks spot on to me - both the wolf and the snow are rendered very nicely.
RE: the sharpening - to my eye (using the larger version) the fur looks quite good overall, but I think the face and snow on the head looks a tad soft (but only very slightly).
Cheers...thanks for sharing this Jorne, looking forward to "full speed ahead."
