Hi Ken, and welcome to NPN.
I don't want put you off ever posting again, but there are a few things we can address here to maybe help you with future shots .Can you tell me how much of a crop this photo was, as there is some detail lacking , and overall it seems a bit soft with some noise artifacts.
I'd also like to see more room all around the bird.
I can't quite tell if the perch is a wooden beam, that is over-exposed, or a branch?
What brand of camera are you using ?

Welcome to NPN!
You have a good eye to have seen this. Looks as if he is on a crossbeam of something like a shed or barn?
There are some lighting and sharpness issues here we could help with, if you'd tell us what camera you use, and how big a crop.

Sweet pose, Ken. A very nice catch. As mentioned, there are some issues. I think a reduction in the f-stop to let you reduce the iso would have helped a lot for the noise issues. With that lens you probable didn't need that high an f-stop to get the depth of field you wanted. Welcome to NPN.

Ken, welcome to NPN. I agree with the other comments so far. This is a great bird. Seems you used flash on this. A detailed discription on your technique for this image would help us all give you some good suggestions on improving things for the next similar opportunity. Please take this as a request to see more of your work. We are all here to help eachother become better bird photographers so ask any question necessary. Cheers.
