Observing the Undercast

by Jim Salge

My life in photography came full circle this week, as I was brought back to the place that began my interest in photography for a professional assignment shoot.

Though the trip had been planned weeks in advance, I couldn't have hand picked better conditions...light winds, undercast and a heavy rime ice accumulation.

This was my favorite shot of the shoot...an observer at the Mount Washington Observatory taking in the view...

Comments and critiques always appreciated!

I had to double check that this wasn't posted in photo art because I didn't believe it was real! I also see that this photo is on the main webpage for Mount Washingon

Congrats on this amazing photo and everything coming around. The red jacket really makes this photo pop :toast:

The usual good work, Jim. The rime ice makes it look like the mountain is an extension of the clouds!

Spectacular conditions and lovely image Jim. I like the comp and the delicate color in the sky and cold mountain landscape. It is a truly beautiful place especially when you can see more than 5ft in front of you and a fierce wind is not blowing. Excellent work.

What a sweet otherworldly view Jim, and the red jacket was definitely a good choice

Definitely had me fooled. When I looked at the thumbnail I saw Ice along the great lakes and high waves, Mount Washington works too.

Spectacular. The cloud trail in the icing so to speak.

Great depth! The inclusion of the person is what really makes this photo work. Nicely done.
