Ghost Trees

This image was taken this week in Yellowstone's Biscuit Basin. The weather had finally dropped to minus 10 making conditions just right for these amazing ghost trees. Shot with Canon 5D Mark II, 24-105mm lens.

I like the framing of the tree on the left and actually wish there were a bit more of it. Is this fog a result of the -10 temp or is it steam from a thermal formation (Stan should have fun with that question)? Either way, it sure works well in the image.

I like the mood and creative comp here and how you included a foreground element that is placed on the side of the frame :wavey:

Love the light on those trees and the way you captured it. You can almost feel the wind blowing across. Nicely done.

Great light and that steel colored sky looks like -10.

Tony, it is steam you are seeing from a hot spring just to the right of the trees. It's an amazing place, I could spend forever photographing it.

Ah, now i cant have any fun with the question, Tamara... :frown:

I love this subject, and presentation is good (highlites are strong, but appropriately so), but the comp is throwing me, and im not totally sure why. Part of it might be the left side frame, maybe more of it would have helped as Tony suggests. Then the rhs seems uncomfortably cut off to me--there's all this light and steam coming from that side but i cant see the source. Basically, the shot makes a nice initial impression, but the more i look at it, the more it has me wishing for a different angle. Fortunately, youll only get those nits from picky fellow photogs
