This was September on the Madison. This bull was with cows and spent a lot of time in the river.

Very well done, Jack! I like the good detail, the position in the frame, the water coming from the hooves. It looks like you could use a slight clockwise rotation.

Fine dynamic pose with the lifted foreleg and wake in the water. I like the colors, the catchlight, and the horizontal layering, all with a super bull. Again, the background deadfall (beyond your control) conspires to catch the eye and diminish the impact of what this might have been. Regarding rotation, this is tricky because the wake and line of the river bank both lead the eye, perhaps creating an optical illusion. To be accurate, one has to make the reflection vertical to the subject and here it looks close or only very slightly out of level.

Hi Jack,
I like the image and I think you've positioned the key elements very well. It's unfortunate that the deadfall in the background overlaps with the antlers and visually interferes with their outline. To me it the image looks level and you simply have a receding waterline in the background (which can confuse the eye a little).
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Nice shot. A fine looking elk, nice light, nice pose in the river. Too bad about the somewhat distracting background but thats nature photography. You can't control these things. Still a good shot.
