Nevermore

While photographing a sunrise in Canyonlands, this raven came and landed in a tree behind me. For about 20 minutes he just watched me. Every few minutes he'd let out a loud caw. I guess he wanted his picture taken, so I obliged him.

I have other pictures with his profile looking forward and backward. The backward profile would probably look quite artistic, but I also like how he was giving me the stare down.

The larger version shows the details I brought out on his left side.

Hi Ron,

I moved this over to the Avian Gallery - I hope you don't mind...

Cheers...

Ron,
very nice detail and light. IMHO the composition would have worked better, if the angle had been less steep. On the other hand you were there for another target and the crow would be happy if he saw the picture.

I like this when I look at the larger version. I would consider a crop from the right to move the bird off center a tad. Sharon

I like the tangled branches under the Raven Ron, but agree I would take some off of the right to have the raven less centered and would make the comp stronger.

I am stillt rying to get a Raven shot I am happy with, they are my current nemesis bird.
