Still working on my droplets. I dunno… How did I do?

D200, 105 micronikkor with extension tubes, tripod, grass, rain, and a broken back! f 4.5, 1/60, ISO 320.

I'm sure interested in what you have to say about this… So, please let me have it! I tried all different apertures and comps and angles…

Thanks.

Hi Catherine. I think you did great. Really like your DOF/POF choice. Just enough drops in focus to grab my attention and lead me in. Then my eye explores up and down that nice s-curve.

I like the main 'in focus' water droplets, but I am not sure about the OOF area in front. Maybe if that OOF shape was leading to the corner of the shot it would work better for me.

Catherine: What's this about a broken back? Joining us old codgers who have a hard time getting down low? Actually, my biggest problem isn't getting down but getting back up! As for the shot, I like it. The placement in the frame of the POF works very nicely for me. Nice job with this high a mag. >=))>

Must've taken some patience. But it paid off. Love the mottled greens in bg.

Thanks, guys. Getting shots of water droplets on grass was not as easy as I thought. Zillions of crystal droplets sparkling up at me and there I was with my tripod LOW and me all bent over and creeping by millimeters around my grassy macro world. Oh my aching back. Ha, ha-- Yes, Bill, I am old enough to suffer consequences of such ridiculous maneuvers! And like you, I can't get up so easily any more either. Perhaps I shall need the help of my neighbors, now, when they come out to see if I'm dead on the sidewalk. My lying motionless for so long seems to disturb people who know nothing about macro photography and/or don't perceive that I am holding a camera. Time for crocus! They're up! So I'm going out again later if the weather/light holds, wander around by millimeters in the crocus forest and hobble home hopefully with a good catch. Good thing it's only just across the street. Have fun everyone. And I'd like to keep hearing critique on this post, please!

Catherine,

I like this very much exactly as posted. I might prefer the focal plane a little more towards the viewer but I'd have to see it to know for sure. I think I could look at this for a long time and not get bored with it. Beautiful work.

Great job in my opinion. This type of shot isn't as easy as it looks. I've been out trying to photograph water droplets in the past and though they look good in the tiny image on the back of my camera once I look at them on the computer I see just on precise the focus needs to be and I end up with a bunch of "close but not close enough" images. But, it look like you nailed it here. Great job.

Love it, Catherine !! Like the way it slides out of focus top and bottom - that draws the eye beautifully around the image. If anything maybe a droplet or two more in focus, perhaps, but really am not sure. It sings as is !!
