Storm Residue

Lincoln City, Oregon

After a monstrous +10ft high tide earlier in the day, combined with some exciting stormy weather, the beach was littered with these patches of sea foam. Due to the wind constantly blowing the foam away, and incoming waves erasing my compositions, I had a fairly tough time photographing such a simple subject. I had to predict where the wind would push the foam, set up, and then make the exposure before the next wave would come in and ruin the whole thing. It was fun though, and the sky cooperated nicely.

Thanks for any comments or critique.

Very unique Aaron,

There are some scenes that are a real pleasure to view and this is definitely one of them. Great job with the timing and persistence to get the shot. It has a wonderful color tone engulfing the scene.
Well executed and captured

Simple, but a very enjoyable image. I can fully appreciate the effort it takes to get such a shot. No nits here... beautiful work, start to finish.

Just a beautiful shot through and through. Lovely color and surprisingly great foreground. Most of the time I try to avoid foam, but it works so well here. I also really like the subtle ripples of what I am guessing is receding water. No nits from me. Well done!

Interesting to hear your challenges with this scene. I like the result and light on the foam really brings out the detail. Great colors too.

I so love the coast (especially the Oregon coast) and this captures its beauty very well.

This is a sweet shot. And considering what you had to deal with the comp is excellent IMO. The way the exposure lightens from right to left with the foam line following that same direction it acts almost as a vanishing point and is really cool. The detail is very good throughout. I could look at this image for awhile and remain engaged. Is the color accurate? Regardless it's a great capture, nice going.

Nice shot, Aaron. Great color and I love the low viewpoint and wide-angle perspective. Nicely composed considering the foam chasing you were doing!

Great work here Aaron. You have definitely conveyed the feeling of a clearing storm with this image. The drama in the sky is wonderful and the composition with the foam leads the eye right to it. Gotta love those spectacular moments of winter light on the coast! :toast:

Your persistence paid off! I know how tough these foam creations can be to photograph, as they are constantly moving and eroding into nothing. I really like this comp, Aaron, as the foam forms pull me right into the image. What a great sky you had to compliment the foreground! :toast:

Very cool, a great idea using the foam as a leading focal point. I would have been cool to focus on the foam itself, if it hadn't been so dynamic.

I think your composition is just flawless. The lens angle and focal length are just perfect, and you took a typically drab subject (foam) and turned it into a very photogenic foreground. I love the color and everything about this feels perfectly balanced to me.

Despite the fact your photo was taken in stormy conditions, it gives me a much more calming feeling than you would expect. The tones are really beautiful, and as for the sparks of golden light on the horizon... :jump: Great work Aaron.
