Hi everyone,
I just registered the other day so this is my first post here. For those who haven't read my short introducing post, my name is Roland, friends just call me "Bill",I'm an amateur photographer from switzerland.
This shot was taken in "Emmental" ( a slow rolling hill region in switzerland with a lot of small farms) at Mutzbach Falls, a not so well known waterfall not too far from my home.Comments & critiques are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!

Wow, this scene is incredible. Nicely composed Roland, and I like how cold the icy blue waterfall feels. You could try sharpening your picture up a bit before putting it on the web. Welcome to NPN!

Great first post! I don't really know the Emmental region, even though I'm based not too far away in Zurich (I spend a lot of shooting time in the Jura, Ticino and Wallis). Perhaps it's time to start getting to know it better.

By the way, did you get a shot from closer to the falls? I'd like to see more of that wonderful ice-encrusted rock and a bit less of the comparatively ordinary surroundings...

Or maybe I should just try and get down there myself before everything melts.

Great first post! I like the layout of the picture, but the sides do seem a bit dark. Perhaps a bit of midtone lightening and sharpening for the web would work.

If you have it I'd also like to see this same falls in a bit closer crop with portrait mode to eliminate the dark sides.

First off welcome to NP! This is an incredible water fall. The exposure level is perfect for the texture of the water. I find the left side a bit dark. HDR may work well here.

Welcome Bill.
I like this shot. The curving of the cliff in the background and the roundness of the creek bed give the image an almost "fisheye" appearance that's very appealing. Perfect shutter speed at the moving water in the fg. The ice and the dark cliff contrast nicely.
Waterfalls are great subjects for winter shooting here in the Pacific NW also. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

A wonderful first post, Bill. I really like the areas of ice that formed around the falls. Did you happen to move in any closer and shoot some images of just the falls with the ice formations? I think that would make for some interesting compositions. I look forward to some more posts.

Hi Bill. Welcome to NPN.

I agree that the side seem a bit dark, but the white ice/snow around the falls easily lights it up and instantly throws the focus there.

My suggestion would be crop all the bright sky from the image leaving just the sunlit trees at the top.

A very nice shot, Roland. It brings out the explorer in me; I find myself drawn to the waterfall, because I am curious about the ice formations there. I like that very much.

Hey Bill, welcome to NPN. The waterfall really pops amidst its surroundings. I like this shot very much. I can really feel winters chill in this one.
