. . . of Winter to Come

Sony A700
Minolta 200mm macro
ISO 200, 1/125 @ f11

Found this frozen creek in Tuolomne Meadows in the fall of 2008. This is a rework of my original post. I did boost the contrast a bit and also put up a larger version. All comments welcome. >=))>

For those who have suggested a crop of the LLC go here.

Very nice image. I love the patterns of the ice. They almost look like flowers. I also like the pattern of rocks underneath the ice.

Bill,
Wow, that bottom left portion is very special! I love the entire image, however I think if you could isolate that bottom left area without the cracks or the more complicated upper areas it would make the image even stronger. It would be a shame to toss out all that resolution in cropping, but I think it would be well worth it even if print size was limited. I have never seen ice like this... with the stones under water it really makes for a wonderful image! Congrats!

Great, Great capture. I've never seen ice forming like that!

Makes my ice presentation previous to yours look like grade school.

The background color, the pentogram shapes of the forming ice and the linear ice all form a great photo.

Wow! This is fascinating. What a find. I don't recall seeing the original post. It's not my intent to diminish the superb quality of your image as posted, but I totally agree with Wayne. If enough detail and resolution could be maintained in an enlarged crop of just the area below and left of the straight "cracks", the resulting composition would be absolutely extraordinary.

A magical find, Bill! The ESS version stands better from a composition point of view, but this is very beautiful too. Simply amazing!
