Varied Ice

by Larry Fischer

Gallery: Weekly ChallengePosted January 29, 201034 views4 comments
Taken several weeks ago in NE Kansas.

Bitterly cold for about 2 weeks, with highs in only single digits.

This was taken in a stream that had some running water above it. The varied ice patterns in such close proximity is what intrigued me.

Converted to mono because of slight blue tint in upper left quadrant.

Nikon d700, Nikkor 35-105 at 100mm and f/22, 1/180 sec., ISO 800. NX2 sharpening.

Interesting image. A very nice variety of patterns and textures.

Larry: I really like the crystalline forms in this. I'd be curious to see the color. Well done.>=))>

The patterns are fairly appealing. I'm not enthused about the B&W conversion though. As Bill commented, I'd be interested in comparing this to the color version.

Very chaotic, but it works for me, Larry. Life is chaotic
I might tone down just the brightest highlites in the center bottom.
