Taken near my home in the Scottish Borders, UK. There was a large flock of these birds working a hedgerow, I managed to get quite close to them and get some reasonable shots

The Background is a little bitty with the small branches, but thats what it is.

Canon 50D, Canon 500mm f4 lens + 1.4x TC, f6.7, 1/350sec, ISO500

A nice shot of this Old World sparrow. A touch soft, of maybe motion blur, but still very nice.

Ron, a very good looking bird. I like all the color contast on this species. I don't mind the branches as they show this bird's habitat. The bird does look a bit soft and the yellows above the eye and below the beak look a bit hot on my calibrated monitor. I might tone those areas down a bit if this were mine. A very nice image overall.

A wonderful species, I have seen a few times while I lived back home.
This is a photo worth tinkering with.
The branches above and below the bird appear fairly sharp, so the bird could have been moving, hence the slight softness.
I think zooming out a bit, giving him more room ( mainly infront ) and adding some USM to the main subject should help . :toast:

Nice shot Ron, good pose, I guess branches are par for the course in a hedgerow. Might try anothre pass of USM on this shot.

What a very pretty bird. I love the colors. I agree it is a bit tight in the frame but the branches don't bother me at all. Lovely.

Agreed he's a bit soft, but don't know if that's because he was giving a bit of a rump-shake at the time, or if DOF is the problem, since it's sharper at the head. very cool bird and shot though. Branches don't bother me either...habitat is always good in my book.

Beautiful, Ron. Good detail and an excellent job exposing the yellows. It is a bit tight in the frame for my taste. :toast:
