Nuthatch

I watched this nuthatch for 3/4 weeks at the end of last year as he used this old tree stump to store food for the winter. He would "drumb" a hole in the soft bark in a similar fashion to a woodpecker and then place what looked like a seed or nut inside. Fascinating to watch.

Canon 5D, Sigma 300-800, 1/80th sec at f7,1 and iso800.

Graham,
It's gorgeous! This pose is perfectley emphatic. The stone in FG left is a bit disturbig, but nevertheless it's a very nice capture, with lovely colours.

Fabulously framed Nuthatch Graham. I'd apply some USM to the face area. :toast:

Very nice image of the nuthatch. Love the light and how the tree trunk curves above him. Great comp and exp. Wish the tail was not clipped but thats a small nit.

This is a wonderful composition, Graham. I really like the way the curve of the stump and the curve of the nuthatch work together. To my eye, the bird looks the least bit soft, but the overall image is so good that I don't think it's a problem. Beautiful work. :toast: :toast:

A fine shot, Graham, but your composition makes the shot. The curves of the tree, the stump and even the grass stems echo the arch of the bird's neck. Congratulations; absolutely deserving of the EP.
