Canon 7D, 500 f/4. Shot at 1/2000, f/8, ISO 1000. 100% Full Frame.

This is one of the shots where my 7D (currently back with Canon) performed as I hoped. The ISO 1000 is due to my desire for a very fast SS and f/8 for maximum sharpness--trying to eliminate all sources of softness. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not.

As a result of the high ISO, I did a little noise reduction on the background. And smart sharpening on the bird. Hopefully I've managed to avoid sharpening noise or any other of the errors that I have been making.

Not exceptional, but a nice pose and light in the eye, and it stands out well against the bg.

Comments and critiques appreciated.

Lots of fine detail to be had on this shot. Too bad you couldn't coax it to turn the head a little bit. The high ISO doesn't show at all

nice details depsite the high ISO. The sharpening done is very good too. Good exposure in what seems like difficult conditions.

Good detail, nice exposure. The feet being cut off by the wood sticking out, does IMHO distract a bit, but as we all know you can't exactlly pose these little critters where you want them.

I really don't see any noise. The lighting IS exceptional and creates a nice contrast.

Excellent, Brian. I don't see any processing artifacts, and I like the way the bird works with the bg. :toast:

I'd never guess the high ISO here and your processing looks good.

I like this Brian. I like the directional lighting a lot. The dark BG is great for showing off the bird. Processing looks great.

Nice lighting on the Jay, Brian. I think the dark background does a nice job highlighting the bird.

Maybe not exceptional but still quite good Brian. I especially like the lighting on the jay with that dark background. Sure sorry that you've had problems with the 7D. Hope you'll fill us in on what Canon says the issue was when you get it resolved.
