Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted January 14, 2010132 views6 comments
It’s been a while since I had the macro lens on the camera, but I found this old image that I never posted before, and decide the most logical gallery for it is this one.

While paddling in the Adirondacks in September a couple of years ago, I came across a large “flotilla” of duck feathers (can’t recall what species it looked like). It looked like an unknown predator’s leftovers. It was not easy photographing them with the feathers and my kayak at the mercy of the current, but I managed to find a quiet spot next to this log.

Very nice, Wayne. Probably better without the log, I think, but hard to come by given the circumstances. What makes this outstanding for me are the details in the feather and the lighting on the vegetation.

Wayne: Like the detail and water droplets on the feather :toast: . The BG log is a bit distracting though. You are game to put your gear in your kayak; I would be too worried about getting water in them.

I like this very much Wayne. The detail in the feather is wonderful and the suttle "S" curve it has makes it pleasing to the eye. I agree the log is maybe a little distrating but understand there's not much you could have done with that, so in my opinion you did a great job in the way you added it to the comp of the overall photo. I've been discovering for myself that kayak photography is a little tricky, but getting on the water in the dark and being there just as the sun breaks the horizon is magical. :toast:

The feather and all the detail on it are beautiful.
