Moonrise at Sunset

Looking east over Puget Sound with the last glow of sunset behind me, as the moon rose over Whidbey Island. This may be a bit too minimalist for most people's tastes, but I would appreciate all comments.

Stephen,

This a very calm and serene scene. I really like the pastels and the presence of the fishing boat makes for a nice story. I'm wishing there was detail in the moon, but certainly understand why it gets blown out - and it doesn't bother me. I like the moon's reflection as well.

IMO, I think have some latitude to increase contrast and saturation - a personal choice of course.

speaking of boats, I'll be moving this to Man & Nature after posting my comment. I hope you understand, but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to drop me or one of the other moderators a note. Thanks!

Lon

I like the muted colors of this image but to me it is a little too balanced with the horizon in the middle and the moon, reflection and boat all almost centered. When I look at the large photo I think I like it better is you crop off just above the horizon to leave just the boat and reflection. Or, do it the other way and crop off most of the bottom and leave the boat and moon. Just a personal opinion of course.

Perfectly minimalist. Great how the moon and its reflection are such a strong focus despite being relatively small elements physically in the frame.

Very nice image. I like the pastel colors, especially the shades of blue in the sky and the water. And I like the moon's reflection.

Great shot, Stephen. I have mixed feelings about the moon not having much detail and wonder if burning it just a wee bit would help. Nice "dusky" colors, but might benefit from a small tweak such as a linear contrast curve or a small bump in contrast by some other means. This looks so close to being sensational, I don't think any of the adjustments need be very much. Being from this area, I love seeing scenes like this.
