Alone in the Snow

What a nice hike I had today. To warm up my legs for the upcoming snow shoe season, I went up to the entrance of the "Bärenschützklamm" - one of my favorite gorges. The path up there was covered in fresh snow and I was the first one to walk on it - in fact I was the only who walked that path for the whole day. This is a peaceful as it can get.
I passed by this area of dense forest. I know this place well and back in summer I wondered how this will look with a little snow on it - here you go. It's not as nice as Floris' recent snow/forest image, but it didn't get any better than this.
I wish I already had my LF gear running at that moment. As you can see it's already 4x5 and I even had to correct for some tilt in Photoshop.

Enjoy the wintertime - at the moment it's snowing again here and we will get even more snow in the next few days.

Canon 5DMII, Zeiss VS 35-70mm, Hoya HD Polarizer

Thanks for all comments & critiques. The LARGER VERSION is only a little larger but it has "normal" compression - this one was at 49% quality.

Hi Andreas, very powerful compo with the trunks and overall those branches full of snow!

Good use of vertical frame

Beautiful image, Andreas! I like the slight blue/cyan in the snow and how it sets off the warm tone in the trunks.

This is a beaut, Andreas! Love the lines and the combo of the browns and cool tones. Great how it fades out into the background, too. Excellent work.

Andreas,

Wonderfully seen and captured intimate view of the forest. The repeating patterns are great and congrats for recognizing the potential and returning after a snow. I too really like the blue tint as the light fades in to the background. Perfect arrangement of trunks as well. I love this one!

You need to wipe the dust off the 4x5 you're hording.... Or at least give Dietrich a good price break!

Beautiful Andreas, the snow covered branches really stand out for me - like skeletons in the snow. Looking forward to seeing what you LF will bring you!

Very strong composition. I think many others would turn up the contrast on this but I like that you kept it more subtle. I'd really be tempted to go B&W with this - I think it would look great in B&W.

The almost perfect verticals just grab you and pull in, with so many vertical lines it's a wonder how the eye decides to move sideways, hmmm
Nice work Andreas.

Sweet!! Symmetry and balance doesnt get any better than this--what a find!
It's not as nice as Floris' recent snow/forest image
Says you! It may be comparing apples to oranges, but with all due respect to Floris great shot--your shot is a perfect example of the critique that i offered in Floris' post: the color balance is perfect here--very natural and approachable.

I like this picture, its ordered and repetitive pattern, still with modulations and variations, and the color contrast... Pity for the web compression, the original must be a wonder...

I love scenes like this, and this is a very nice one!! It has beautiful symmetry, and the horizontal branches all overlapped give this an almost weaved kind of look. I think this could also make for a wonderful motion blur, if you were so inclined, next time you pass by this spot.

Snow does wonders sometimes, Andreas. While I can see the density of the forest, I also get the feeling I can also see every detail.

Really good work Andreas. And a kind of different image for you I think. Has a bit of an abstract feel for me. Good to hear you enjoyed your recent outing!

Andreas,

Outstanding. Graphic almost to the point of abstract, and I like that.

Cool shot, Andreas. All the snow covered branches inter-weaved is chaotic but organized. I have a similar shot from Yosemite last winter, but I think yours is much cleaner and more organized. :toast:
