I can't seem to get away from Willow Ptarmigan this winter. Here is another shot of these beautiful birds. I really like how you get to see the fuzzy legs and feet in this shot, hence the title "Down Slippers".

Minolta 70 - 210 mm f4 lens

Taken at 210 mm (315 mm full frame)
ISO 200

The bird in the foreground looks like it is pacing back and forth and thinking real hard. Lovely shot.

Boy, they do have downy slippers. Another shot that looks super cold. The angle of the light even makes it look colder. Love the pose on the front bird.

Lee -

If I'd seen this bird in the field in Alaska I'd have thought it a female Rock Ptarmigan; the Rock ladies don't always have the black loral stripe. The bird is less chunky than I'd expect a Willow Ptarmigan female to be, and the bill seems slightly large for a WIPT. Good capture, either way.

Love this. Really like the misty whiteness of it, with the bird padding silently across the snow.
Well done.

I like the white on white and the icy blues, it does feel cold looking at it.
