Red-headed Barbet
by Nate Chappell
Here´s one from our current trip to Ecuador, a male Red-headed Barbet. This species had been difficult for me. There are banana feeders at some of the lodges and this guy will land directly on the feeder, so I moved his bananas to a place where I thought he would land on a better perch. Most of the other birds couldn´t find the bananas for a while but this fellow is quite smart and found them right away. He checked me out and proceeded to the bananas. This was taken at Rancho Suamox. About 70% of FF.
This bird is a tough exposure, I dialed in -0.7 to hold the whites and reds, I didn´t use fill as it had spooked him earlier.
MkIII 500F4 1.4X 1/320 F7.1, iso 500, evaluative metering -0.7
