This was taken in the Landmannalauger area in the interior of Iceland. Moss is beginning to take hold on a relatively new lava flow. It starts to grow in the drainage channels eroding the lava and spreads from there. For a reason unknown to me there was a distinct line where it stopped growing all along the face of this hill. Please see larger version. Any critiques would be appreciated.

Canon 1DS II, 70-200l IS @ 200mm, f4.5, 1/125 sec, ISO 100. Don't know why I used f4.5, but I do remember there was a horrendous wind whipping through this pass and maybe I was trying to get a faster exposure. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

A large scale, impressive abstract Scott. I like the yellow and purple colors as well. Beautiful capture regardless of f stop used.

This is really cool Scott, I like this a lot. My only suggestion would be a teeny crop from the bottom to remove that lower section coming in from the right bottom corner. Great work!

I am amazed by the blues... nice colour contrast... trying to figure out the perspective... I take it you are looking down from a mountain, Scott?

I agree with the others--great color combo! A nice abstract for sure. Id crop the very bottom strip and call it perfect.

Karsten, I am on top of a small hill on one side of a pass shooting straight across at the other side of the pass. At the bottom of the image the hill has a gentle slope and then where the moss is it gets steeper.

Very interesting work Scott. As Eva mentions - a very good "large scale" abstract.

Very interesting - almost alien like. Crop it just a little from the bottom to get rid of the wedge. Otherwise this is a great abstract.

Fascinating textures and process. I wouldn't have even guessed it was moss. This looks more like sunlit and shadow . . . but not quite Agree with Satan about cropping the short strip along the bottom.
