WC #411 - Migration

These are Barnacle Geese (Branta leucopsis) on their autumn migration. They always pass over the Botanical Gardens where I'm often shooting, and usually they fly quite low. They're polite enough to announce their fly-by beforehand with loud squawking, but it's not enough time (at least for me) to start changing lenses. What an appropriate lens I had for this...

This seems to be the height of my bird photography so far (emphasis on "so far"). Shutter speed was slow, but fortunately geese aren't the fastest of movers. The bird in the upper left corner is a bit lonely, but I didn't want to clone it out, because it makes a full dozen of birds.

Thank you for looking.

Olympus E-3
Sigma 105 mm macro
1/250 sec @ f11
ISO 125
Handheld, full frame

Edit: The blue seems a bit darker than I wanted...

The birds are very well diagonal placed through the frame. The top right fit well in to the overall composition. I'd crop a bit the right side. Well done Katja.

The larger version really helps.

I like the lighting on the front edge of the wings.

Full frame = nice rapid captur.e

Fortunately you didnt crop out the rogue goose--cause the corner one makes this shot for me. Very cool. Just a tiny bit dark--maybe a higher ISO would have helped. :wavey:
