David Cobb's Cosmos
by Sean Bagshaw
From the trip I took with David to the SW in October. We were doing some night photography in Devil's Garden and David said I'm going to jump into a shot here and see how it comes out. He held amazingly still for the 30 second exposure while I ran to the side and flashed him a couple of times with the flashlight. It feels like a shot the late Carl Sagan might have done for his Cosmos series.

much of that lightpainting images that have sprung up lately have one distracting thing in common, imo: the lit rocks look like as they were photographed in daylight and it just doesn't fit in with the sky. its technically done real well but the night-mood gets lost. they look rather synthetic. not much different than when they would have been sandwiched. I mean the idea is great, but I think there is much room for improvement, since you seem to have the tech-part down to a science anyways. I mentioned it someplace else, that I feel if its just done to show off the effect, it will be a shortlived fashion, that will loose interest in the viewers world pretty fast. your photography in general is quite the oposite - very captivating - thats why I mention it. (and because most everyone else will find it cool)
