Time Sculpture

Virgin River Narrows again, but I tried to do something a little different in this one. This sculpted section is in a particularly dark and narrow portion of the canyon. On the way in I passed right by it in search of the bigger and more well known canyon views.

I stopped on the way out when I noticed the sculpted shapes and moody dim light. I wonder how long the two stones have been rattling around helping to carve out that pocket...perhaps thousands of years?

Man Sean, this looks almost spooky in nature.

Very interesting.

the moody dim light really makes this for me... I love the comp too, the anchor provided by the two stones in the ll...

Light has brought out the texture wonderfully. The comp works great. Really nice image Sean.

What really attracts me to this scene is the varied coloration of the wall - sublime!

Striking textures and shadowplay here. Needs a small tree all alone in it somewhere.

Sean,

Great title - it's hard to imagine how long those stones have been tumbling around there - or I could be a cynic and say that a couple of photographers put them there in 1987.

Seriously, this is a great nature story with great lines and form. Short on color, but I don't think that's important here, it's not about color, but certainly this has great lighting. I think this is a great and well executed capture.

Hi Sean,

A very nice color rendition of that particular area of the Narrows. I also like the comp. On the flip side, I don't think this looks as sharp as some of your other images - it may be the web processing, but most likely your lens of choice for this one. Thanks for sharing. Michael

I like this, Sean. Slot canyon light with a bit of a twist. The textures are wonderful and the two rocks make as strong focal point.

This is a gorgeous image Sean. I was wondering whether a crop leaving out the right part of the image would not give another different image as powerful as this. Wonderful image again. :toast:

very nice find-the nestled little rocks deposited in the scoop gives a sense of the strong waters that deposited them here
