Lonely Tree

Taken in NE Kansas in 2008.

Usually one is not supposed to put the horizon in the middle but I felt the reflected sky added something to this effort.

D300, Nikkor 18-200 VR at f6.3 and 50 mm, 1/160 sec., ISO 200.

Full frame, Capture NX2 processed.

C and C sought and appreciated.

I agree that the reflected color is nice. Still, I don't think the composition would suffer from a slight crop from the bottom, maybe just about 10% or so.

Crop is fine for me. Love the colors! The tree silhouette is a strong focus here, am wondering if it would have been possible to get a lower angle so that more of the tree was silhouetted against the sky. Nice shot.

I second Stan's comment. The colors are wonderful, just wish I could see a bit more of the tree.

Intense sunset. We had one of those vertical sunbeams tonight, though I didn't get out to take a picture. The horizon doesn't actually seem centered here, but a little below center. While I think this works fine, I could also see cropping the light patches of sky between the clouds near the top border and bringing it even more towards centering it.

Beautiful sunset Larry. I really like the vertical ray.

The shillouetted tree really makes this image for me. Without it it'd be just another sunset (or sunrise) image. I do agree with the others that seeing more of the tree would have been nice.

Larry nice capture of an atmospheric sunset, sunrise phenomena. It's called a sun pillar, the reflection in the water actually intensifies the effect. That's just added spice to a very nice comp. Course I'm a sucker for a great sunset image.

Larry,

Beautiful sunset(rise?) As someone always says, rules are meant to be broken and I see no problem centering the horizon in a scene like this. It's about symmetry and simplicity. I would even agree with Tony and crop that little bit of open sky up top make this even more centered. The tree makes for a nice focal point. I like this very much. Great color too.
