(c) On the Move

I'm sure this is not everyone's cup o' tea but we had a rainy day in spain so I decided to make the most of the low light to try some movement blurs. The elephant was walking from one part of the enclosure (probably the biggest enclosure I've ever seen, it truly dwarfs the elephants, which is a good thing for such large animals) to the other at quite a slow speed, so i had several attempts at his. Curious to see what others think about it!

Thank you for looking!

Tech: Sony a700, 300mm with 2.0 teleconverter (=900mm) @ f14, iso 200 and 1/4th.

note that (c) means this is a captive animal

Very interesting photo, conveys the feeling of movement and avoids any zoo items in the photo including staff.

If the face and eye were crisp I would call this a success. As it is, I would call it an almost. The sense of motion is certainly there and the comp and exposure look fine.

Hi Jorne,

Good idea here, but I'm thinking my eye needs something here to grab onto - such as a sharp face and eye as Lon suggested. Positioning of the elephant in the frame and the simplicity of the image both work for me...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Hi Jorne, I am not used to seeing an elephant posted by you so looking at the thumnail I figured this must be some disfigured bear! Good experiment. The way you have captured the motion blur, with the head sharp and the legs and trunk clearly blurred and indicating she is on the move is IMOgenerally the most pleasing (and difficult) way to make these kind of images. However, looking at the image as a whole I feel it does not hold my attention for long as if another interesting element is needed to make this really work.

Really like the sense of motion. Nice colors and details in the elephant. Really looks he is just moving along!
