Winter Coyote
by Joe James
Shot this guy in Yellowstone last winter. He was busy mousing in the deep snow but I missed the jump shot. This this one instead when he came closer to investigate us after giving up on the mouse. Lighting was pretty flat so I brightened this up quite a bit and upped the contrast. Appreciate any feedback you all might have. Thanks for looking.

Just a tip, love the image!
First thing I want to say - thanks for jumping into the fray and commenting on so many images in such a short time! Many new members are (understandably) hesitant to do so, but it's refreshing to see someone jump right in! Thanks.
The image - like it! I agree that this image shows the character well - touches on the "essence of coyote". Love both the raised paw and the head tilt and look on the coyote's face. I like the positioning of the coyote in the frame and if you are tempted to remove some foreground (as per one suggestion above), I'd personally only take a small amount off (if any at all). Just a personal preference thing...and as posted it works quite well for me...
To be honest, even tho' you've significantly brightened up the image, I think it could use a touch more as it still looks slightly underexposed. Jorne had a good point about any more brightening would mean an increase in noise - so going any lighter (if you choose to do so) may mean you have to do some noise reduction too.
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Another fine image!
I agree with brad that it could tolerate a little more brightening. There seems to be enough texture in the snow to bring it up slightly. I think that would also intensify those beautiful eyes.
Cheers!

Great Job!
