Sandhill Crane Calling - Bosque

I'm waiting for our plane in the Phoenix airport. We had a really nice 11 days of shooting and teaching down in Arizona and at Bosque. This is one of my take off flight shots from the crane pools at Bosque which have been very good of late. About 75% of frame.

Really nice photo. Makes me wish that I had gotten to Bosque during November.

Very well framed, Nate, and I like the varied BG too. On my recent trip to the Bosque I had the best success on Sandhills at the crane pools, and I believe Dave Sparks did as well. Next year (if I go as planned) I'll likely spend a good deal more time at the pools. Good work!

Beautiful lighting and the calling action really puts this one above so many SHC shots. Glad you had a nice time down South

Nate:
Wonderful light! Great wing position and head angle. It's a very sharp "golden" image. I like the different colors of the feathers at the wing tips. :toast:

this is a nice one Nate--a good background and calling pose. I spent a couple mornings before thanksgiving at the crane pools but haven't decided if I got much worth keeping--it was surprising how hard these birds are to capture well, although I think by the end I had a better understanding of what to try for.

I love the light, the flight pose, and the open calling beak. The image has a wonderfully warm feeling even though I am sure it wasn't that warm when you were taking the shot.

Exceptional BIF of the crane Nate! I think it's pretty much perfect and don't mind the slightly angled (away) head. Congrats! :toast:
