Panic At The Disco

Canon 5D2, 24-70L. ISO 400 f/16 1/250th.

Seeing my settings will instantly tell you the story behind this image. I was on my very first photo road trip, and spent the morning ruining a perfectly good sunrise at Death Valley. I really REALLY wanted to get a good dunes shot, but didn't find a comp that worked with the rather stellar sunrise, and ended up exhausting myself by running all over the dunes. I won't go into the details, but suffice it to say that after I finished shooting, it took me several trips down into various valleys to collect all my gear that ended up rolling out of my bag and down the hill. Just as I was leaving dejected and without a shot, I saw a loan figure climb up to the top of one of the taller dunes. I liked the line and got off a couple of shots before he moved. Thanks for your comments and critiques.

Great capture. The lone figure makes a big impact on an already pleasing comp.

That figure really adds here, but everything works very very well. Super lines and light. Very smooth and appealing texture also.

Nicely executed with the sinuous curves ending at the man on the dune.

Really nice, love the glow you got on the dunes and the curves. Just got back from those dunes yesterday.

Wonderful curves, Miles, and I love the graphic quality of the image; it works with or without the person, well done :toast:

Well done, Miles. I like the colors and curvilinear lines. From this image
it looks like your trip was not a complete loss.

I love everything about this...the copper colors, the detailed ripples, and the leading line that takes the eye to every inch of the image. The human figure is just the cherry on top. Very cool!

This works great. Very well composed and love the warm color of the dunes. I'd like to see a little bit of detail in the shadows but that's a small nit.

That shots worth all the effort!!! I love the s-curve, the rich colors and the contrast between light and shadows. The figure just tops it all off. You have a winner!

This is exactly the kind of man & nature shot that I like: a lone figure amidst a natural wonderland, giving both scale and a quirky point of interest to the scene. Very nicely done, Miles. Hopefully, you got all of the sand out of your gear.

Great curves, lines and shadows. The hiker is definitely the icing! Excellent work. Congrats on the EP! I hope you didn't get too much sand in your equipment

A very good example of patience paying off. I've spent many days in similar circumstances, coming away with only 1 or 2 (or no) decent shots.
The lines here are superb, the color exceptional, and the stature of the man adds perspective.
