Stowe Birches

Birch grove near Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe Vermont (yes the hills are alive...)

I shot this scene years ago, shortly after buying my first dslr, a 20d. I returned this past Autumn to shoot it with some newer tech, bigger sensor. The color was pretty but something about it called out black and white this time around. Persistent wind forced a long wait (45 min) for a window without blowing ferns, as it was I had to use iso 800 with no filtration just to get 1/20 sec.

Beautiful shot for my tastes kurt. I like the composition in particular as well as the conversion.

The black and white really pulls the attention to the textures, which are plentiful here. The composition seems to push me out the left side of the frame, blocking up the right, which I'm not terribly fond of. But it's an old shot, so I'll let it slide

I like the perspective and composition. B&W was a good choice.

I find the seperation of the trunks nice work. The B&W conversion works well here.

I have been to VT many, many, many times but never to the Trapp Family Lodge (though I wanted too).

Kurt,

Lovely scene, meticulously captured. The unusual perspective gives me food for thought.
