St. Mary's Sunrise

Hi Folks,
Haven't posted in awhile simply due to busy-ness. But have snuck on a few times to admire the continually inspiring postings. I don't do very many landscapes but with this iconic subject it is hard to resist. Glacier National Park is one of my favorite places. On this morning in September it was about 45F and 40 mph winds kicking up 3' waves. The sun only gave a little color for about 20 seconds and at first I thought it wasn't enought to make an interesting shot. But after seeing it larger I decided I like it.

This is also a stitch of 2 horizontal shots - one of my first attempts. Would love your feedback on this shot.

Nikon D2X, 24-70mm Sigma @ 24 mm, f10, 1/3s, ISO 400 (a mistake); levels, curves, cloned 2 dust spots & tiny saturation bump.

Really nice. Not sure what your standards are for good light, but this is a lot nicer than any of the sunrises I have gotten in the 15+ times I shot the lake! :frown: Really well done!

Love the comp and light. Hope that ISO setting isn't a deal breaker for you.

Very nice stitch. Must have been tough to keep your camera still. Anytime I have been at this spot it is always blowing. Great light on the peaks and nice wave action. Can't go wrong here.

I really like the waves on the lake. They had a lot to this wonderful shot.

Julia.. this is wonderful. I love how the light just kisses the bottoms of the clouds and the few spots on the mountains. I also love the dark clouds and the whitetops on the lake. Serenity at the end of a violent day... it a beautiful metaphor... love it!

Glacier National Park is my favorite place to visit and you captured a fantastic photograph of part of it here. The lighting is remarkable and the clouds add to the grandness of it all. Those 20 seconds of light that you were given on this morning is more than millions of tourists will ever see while driving through the park. Great job and thanks for sharing. :toast:

Love the snippets of flaming orange throughout the scene and the drama of the glow on the right side mountain. The whitecaps on the water add a palpable sense of the weather conditions. This is just beautiful, Julia, and so nice to see a post from you.

Absolutely beautiful Julia - especially the large version. So much color and detail in the clouds, and great light.

Hi Julia,
This is beautiful! Nice job with the stitching. What a magical area, I've yet to visit. Your image makes me want to be there. I really like the rippling in the water, it adds interest to the image. The light is just gorgeous. Very nicely done.

Very nice Julia! I may prefer a hair more base and you did well minimizing the chop on the lake......this one is all about the sweet light.
