Fire in the Sky

First time posting a pic in this gallery. I don't post or comment as much as I would like, but am very grateful of NPN's members for the tremendous wealth of knowledge that has helped me to improve my photography in such a short period of time.

A recent shoot along the coast of San Diego in the La Jolla area during low tide I found myself sticking around well after sunset. Opinions and comments always appreciated. Thanks.

Really cool FG, David. The lines in the rock are a natural lead-in to the great sky. Works for me.

Beautiful sky David. I'm glad that fog bank didnt' end up stealing the sunset like it can do sometimes.

Welcome to this section of NPN, David. That's quite a nice shot with a classical and effective composition. I'm a little on the verge about the exposure. The immediate foreground could be a hint brighter and have more contrast. The deep dark areas on the other hand are quite featureless and so appear a little blocky in some places - maybe you can recover a little detail there.

Beautiful sunset David. No nits at all from me.

Nice sky! I feel that the bottom third of the image lacks interest. I would suggest cropping the bottom third to put more emphasis on the more dominant line that comes in from the right side mid way up. Welcome to the gallery!

David,

Welcome to the ES&S Gallery! Glad you finally decided to get your feet wet.

Beautiful colors and I find this to be very nicely composed with the vertical working very well to emphasize the near/far composition. Having said that, I think the more interesting patterns in the rocks and reflections are closer to mid ground and I think as an alternative, this would make a very strong 4x5 crop, coming up from the bottom. Although I do like the lead-in lines provided as captured and presented.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. As for the fg on my 25 inch monitor with the non-JPEG compressed image it is a little lighter with some nice detail. the LL corner has some green sea vegetation along the rock, but it doesn't seem to be noticeable with this post. I'll have to work on my posting for web pp. Might experiment with a cropped version before I settle on a final image. Thanks all.

This version has a little more detail.
