Oasis

Oasis was exactly the word that came immediately to mind when I happened upon this scene. I have been through and around this area numerous times over the past few years. But this was the first time I had found this particular vantage point. I spent a couple of hours here, photographing and enjoying the scenery and the solitude. I cropped from the bottom to get this 4x5 format.

Jim, Most of the color here works but the cyan in the water is just too overdone. Nice find in a desert with out water but the scene in general doesn't have any anchors or anything that grabs my attention. That's just my opinion hope I'm not being to blunt.

Hmmm ... Thanks Steve. I'm noticing the cyan in the water in the initial "save for web" JPG also. It's not apparent when viewing the PSD in Photoshop. So here is a repost in which I've taken the cyan down a bit. Unfortunately, unless I'm missing something, there is not a way to repost the larger photo.

I appreciate your other comment as well. Personally, I feel that the crevice with the two boulders in the foreground anchors the composition nicely, drawing the eye into the widening pool, which then leads to the autumn foliage in the background.

I don't know if you intentionally included the 2 little plants at the bottom but if so - wise choice. They're really nice little elements. Love the colorful foliage at the top and blue reflections in the pothole.

Great find! The second one is an improvement - i agree he first was a bit over-satted.
he 2 little plants addinterest. Excellent dof and comp here.
I'd personally clone out the bird poop on the rocks, and the white drops in the water..

I prefer the more saturated water in the first post - better contrast with the golden leaves. I think the rocks wedged in at the bottom provide a fine anchor for the composition, though, if it were possible, I would compose them a little further from center - that might give too much grey or red rock on the sides though. Good stuff, Jim.

Wow, super comp. Jim. Very dynamic and 3-D!. The tiny plants at the bottom are really cute and demonstrate the thoughtful composition.

I like the way you captured the distinct colors from one rock to the other, from the water to the leaves.
