Wow, there's nothing like a cypress in autumn. This is magical David. Love the comp and color, and also love the way the moss complements the milky water. Beautiful.

Hi David,

Incredibly interesting image. I especially love the view through the water. There is a ton of texture in the moss and leaves and I am wondering if a slight blur of that area to smoothen out the scene wouldn't help it aesthetically. Then again - maybe this was the style you wanted for this image. Anyways, just a suggestion....thanks for sharing this cool scene. Michael

WOW.. that is incredibly magical! This is one of the most beautiful images I've seen in a long while, just phenomenal! The colors, the moss, the subdued palette, and the elegant tree just all come together so well. I've wanted to see these trees for a while... you just kicked it up a notch!

Wow! Thanks for the overwhelming comments everyone. This is one of my recent favorites from a small lake near the Atchafalaya Basin. It has some of the most amazing cypress I've ever seen and I only wish I could do justice to the beauty there. I've only managed to get out four or five times over the last month and hope to get a few more days in before the fall color is over. This was shot from a kayak as the best areas are only accessible by boat. Regards,,,,,David

Very nice - I like it alot. This really has an eerie mood to it that I think you could capitalize on more by darkening the image by perhaps 1/2-1 stop, while masking out the dark area of the lower trunk.

Thanks again to everyone for the response to this image.

Mark,,,,I rigged a tripod with leg extensions ($40 worth of painters poles from Home Depot). With this set up I can shoot in up to six feet of water. A friend has an even longer rig (he can shoot in over ten feet) but that's too much to handle in my kayak. I'll have one soon for shooting from the flat boat. Setting up for a shot is tedious, but it allows me to get images that were impossible before.

Louisiana does have some fantastic scenery, but if you come be sure to bring a boat.

I meant to comment on this earlier, but its slightly difficult to type on an ipod. This shot is absolutely stunning. So many elements come together just right such as the bits of Spanish Moss sweeping around the tree from the lowest branches and the light coming in from the quarter angle. Its dripping in beauty.
