Sky is on Fire

Named after one of my favorite songs by ACDC. Photo taken close to where I live in Sweden on a lovely June morning this year. The sun was illuminating the high clouds for approx. ten minutes, giving a nice reflection in the small rock pond. Light was tricky and I tried several exposures and this is the one I'm ready to present.

Nice contrast. Composition flows completely throught the photo, beginning lower right with rocks and pool, transitioning up and left along the rock, then to the right an up along the silhouetted rock, then to the lower cloud ridge, then to the intense red color, then to the upper cloud bank.
Nice capture.

Beautiful scene and composition. The reflection is brighter and yellower than the sky, though, and this should be the other way around, shouldn't it? The reflection would be darker and redder than the sky.

Beautiful image. I would try and shift the color in the pond to match the sky more, providing more continuity to the photo. Nice work.

Nice mimic Christer. Hope you didn't step in the bowl of lava there.

What an intense sunset Christer, must have been great to watch. Unless the pool is reflecting some portion of the sky I can't see, it seems a bit bright for the sky, whereas I would expect it to actually be a little darker.

Very intense, Christer. Must've been quite a sight to witness in person. I agree with Floris that the balance of light doesn't quite seem right when you think about. However, if you don't think about it, it's a very dramatic image.

A beautiful scene captured very well, Christer. I suspect the difference in the brightness in the sky and the reflection in the pool is a result of the GND usage. The pool does not appear blown out on the exposure and seems to work OK for me.

Nice, flowing comp and dramatic skies, love it. The pool of water may not match the sky, but using GND filters will create that effect with shots like this. A little underexposure of the sky, a little overexposure of the foreground reflection. May not be totally natural but the extra detail you gained along the rocky shoreline makes it an excellent trade off.

Christer,

What a colorful and dramatic sky; a great sight and I'm sure a memorable sunrise. My only suggestion agrees with Tony and others that somehow the light/color in the reflecting pool doesn't match the sky in terms of brightness and color. And like Tony said, If I don't think about it - it's still a beautiful image.

Thanks for all the good comments received. When looking at the RAW file I see the same difference between sky and waterpond when it comes to light and color. Think my Cokin NDG creates this effect. Great learning reading all the comments and I really appreciate this. Have done some light and color adjustments in the pond and I think the pic was improved - feels more balanced.

The repost feels more natural, but I like the drama in the original version more. You are fortunate to live close to such a wonderful location. Great work, Christer!

The blaze in the pool and sky compliment each other nicely. I'd be tempted to crop to a 4x3 to emphasize it even more.

Beautiful color. Love the reflection and rim light on the pool. While the repost looks more natural, the original is gorgeous.
