Waterton NP.

Caught this little guy while on vacation.

D100
80-400mm AF VR

Any suggestions or advice regarding composition or exposure would be appreciated.

Thanks for taking a look. :wavey:

What, coyotes take vacations??? Couldn't resist. I like your composition and the choice of a vertical format. The exposure looks fine too. Think I'm seeing a few artifacts from compression (200 kb?) or a largish crop though?

very nice shot. I would like a little less foreground and maybe a bit more background.

What a cutie with huge ears. I like the pose and the grass surroundings but agree with a fair crop from the bottom. I too see some funny artifacts in the background. I had something like that for a while and it turned out to be my UV filter. Now I shoot without it.

Great capture! I like how it's framed by the grass. :toast:

I also have had that problem with the artifacts, but after I accidentally broke the UV filter and took it off the lens, everything was much better. I think Sally's right.

This is quite a compelling image Mike and I especially like the relaxed pose. Exposure and DOF look fine. I would be tempted to crop from the bottom, there is just too much OOF Fg for my liking. A pity about that one grass stem growing out of the coyotes head. Regarding the artifacts, it could be compression partly, but also the type of BG that is suspectible to this type of look I think as well as the light conditions.

You've captured a great pose. I tend to agree that a different crop (perhaps with more DoF in the foreground and the cub positioned higher in the frame) would help reinforce the image.
