Impressive close up, wow. I think if I were shooting this though I would try to include a bit more of the fireweed referred to in the title, and more of the upper leg/chest on the bear. Tough to do without a zoom, but I don't know if this is full frame or not. The eyes are very sharp and that is critical. However the nose isn't as sharp, perhaps a bit more dof? I would be curious to know what the moderators (and others) think about that though. I really do enjoy the photo as is though, that's for sure! :toast:

Great shot! Looks as if you were being checked over as a meal. Great detail and clarity.

I like the closeup view of the eyes and those fuzzy ears. The OOF nose is a bit distracting but not horribly so. I like the pop of the pink fireweed in the background. You must have been pretty close to this bear.

Captivating portrait Neil. I like the slightly open mouth and the somehow sweet look in those brown eyes. The bear could very well be havinbg a conversation with you  . I do echo Gary's comments about including a bit more of the fireweed in the BG to the right (if there were more flowers anyway). This would also shift the bear away from the centre of the frame. In the larger version it seems to me that the focus poiunt is on the bear's ear rather than the eyes, which would also explain why the nose is OOF. A bit more DOF would certainly have helped in that respect, but also put more emphasis on the BG, which could be good thing or a bad thing. A good thing if you want bring out the purple flowers more, but of course less if you focus is the bear only.
