Happy Birthday, Carl

I just realized Carl Sagan would have been 75 on Monday. Sorry I missed that rememberance, so that one is for him.

I posted this shot, horizontally, shot with my digital camera a couple of weeks ago. Sure enough, the 4x5 was sharper.

I also shot this with the 8x10, but the lens I have there is not as relatively wide as the 90mm on the 4x5, so this one seems slightly better.

I promise to move on and find another location to shoot!!!! :)

Toyo 45CF, Velvia 50, 90mm Schneider, 12 seconds at f-45.

An absolutely gorgeous scene with flawless exposure. I'm not sure about the tree on the right side, but, hey it was there and you had your tripod hole secured.. I like the somewhat darker tones compared to the previous post. Well done.

Michael,

An absolutely stunning photo. What a difference bewteen the digital and the 4x5. And Velvia did its job very well in this light. Really nice.

This is simply spectacular!
The autumn colors, the lichen encrusted boulder and that shelf/ledge in the river are especially appealing. You might consider cropping the right side just a bit to enclose the framing of the image with that tree trunk, but that's a real minor point.
Well done, Michael!

Yes, sorry, Larry. I know I hogged this spot for over an hour, but I finally DID leave in time for others to shoot it for an hour or so! If it's any consolation, I had to wait behind this guy at Antelope Canyon once while he shot all the good stuff, then moved along when the light got crappy! Happens all the time! :)

Thanks, all. I know the right tree might need to be cropped. I have a horizontal of this that doesn't have that problem.

A very beautiful image, for sure. I especially like how the foliage from the trees on the left weaves throughout the image. I agree with the suggestions about a crop on the right side. The water in the main cascade looks a little hot, but that could be my monitor. Thanks for sharing this wonderful image.

Lovely, Michael! You certainly have done autumn justice. I'm
wondering if you've given any consideration to cropping out the
tree trunk on the right. That's just my small nit. Nevertheless,
this is grand, and I would like to see it as a print. There's a
great deal happening here, and for me, all of it is good. The
creek rocks provide great shapes, particularly in the FG, and
the colors are superb without being overpowering.

Everyone is right about cropping the tree. I didn't think I could get away with it, but it works better....

Beautiful shot. Love the dark waters and how it contrasts nicely with the fall color. Great image.

I'm not sure if I would move on Michael. I think I might stay a while and enjoy God's beauty and Mother Nature's handiwork. And soak in the peace and serenity of this place. Gorgeous.

A dreamy scene for sure - an absolutely beautiful photograph. As for the tree on the right, I would simply crop out the white water between the tree and the edge of frame and use it as a natural edge.

Very Nice! Gorgeous scene from the lacy looking leaves to the lichen on the rocks and that nice shelf waterfall. The composition leads the eye on a journey through the whole image.

I do like the cropped version better but the beautiful fall colors and the exposure of the water around the falls make this a great picture either way.

Beautiful rich and contrasty feel to this Michael. I would crop the sliver of light between the tree and the edge on the right. Looks like rainy conditions - sure brought out the best of the place!
