Hidden Lake with Re-Post

This is a photo I took while visiting Jasper Canada back a couple years ago. It was taken with my old camera, a HP photosmart 850. There's no photo info available. Before sending here I made a level adjustment, increased the saturation and shapened. I do notice I must have had somthing on my lense, for there's a smudge in the pine trees, lower right of picture.
Thanks for looking and C&C Welcomed.

A very pretty scene, for sure. The darker areas could be lightened up some, and a see some hot spots on those snow covered peaks.

John,

Hey, I have that "old" HP 850 - it was a nice little camera when it came out.

This is certainly a beautiful location and you've captured a lovely scene. The clouds and snow-capped peaks are wonderful here. Tyson touch on the only issue I have with the image really and that's the overall darkness of much of the scene. Not sure if you have Photoshop or some other photo editing sw, but I would recommend lighting up the tree and forest areas a bit if you're so inclined.

The tree on the left works pretty well as a framing device, but on the other hand it sort of blocks the magnificent view as well. I'm guessing though you may have had limited options on where you could stand.

I'm sorry I missed your first post but I do want to welcome you to NPN and the ES&S Gallery! Looks like you've been posting in other galleries as well and jumping in with some comments - and that's great! Welcome aboard.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Lon, The only software I have is the basics that came with my Canon camera. I did do a mid range level adjustment just real quick to see if it made a difference without trying to blow out the snow in the mountains that I've re-posted. It seemed to change the blue in the sky but I need some experience with post processing for sure so I'll keep practicing. Again, thanks for your input, That's why I'm here.
Oh, by the way I still have the 850 and it still takes pretty clean pictures. I just can't stand dealing with the 3 second shutter lag. :jump:

I really do wish images like this got more comments. Anyways, I really like the repost more than the original, so that's what I'll go off of. First off, great job capturing a huge DOF here- everything looks crystal clear. I'm torn on the composition. On one hand I like the creativity, on the other I kind of want an unobstructed view. Other than that I love the colors and sky. Overall a very creative shot, thanks for sharing this :toast:

John,

Thanks for the rework and reposting this. I think the repost is better especially considering you don't have any photo processing software other than the camera sw. I know PhotoShop is terribly expensive, but you may consider starting with PS Elements. There's quite a few programs out there.

This would be a classic example of being able to use masking and adjustment layers. I like that you were able to bring up the midtones and shadows, but as you noticed, it also affected the sky. With the imaging software you could basically perform selective adjustments; in other words, adjust the lightness of the trees while not changing the sky/clouds. but I'm sure you probably knew that and are just waiting to get some editing software.

Best of luck and keep learning and shooting - that's why we're all here.
