Bisti Egg Factory

This is an image taken in the Bisti Wilderness in Northwest New Mexico. There are some very interesting, and strange rock formations out there. This image is an HDR blend of 5 images. Some Photoshop work with color to create a more monotone type of image. Some selective sharpening applied to emphasize the textures.

The reason for the title: This part of the wilderness are is commonly referred to as the Egg Factory because of the rock formations that are relatively short and close the the ground and shaped a bit like eggs. Yeah... you have to use some imagination.

The foreground rock is about 3 feet across. I took this with a 17mm lens on my Canon 5D. Some fun perspectives with a wide lens on a full frame body.

Thanks for your thoughts.

This is really cool, Keith. I'm not fond of the color of the sky, but the rest of this works for me.

I love it. It is very dramatic. I like it lots better than being there on a hot summer day.

I was there a couple months ago, an incredible place, yo came away with a unique view. I like your low-angle composition and what you did with the monotone/sepia look on the rock formation. The sky just looks off to me, I might suggest going to that same sepia tone with the sky as the cloud shapes are dramatic enough.
