Hi Jeff,
Welcome to NPN and to the Fauna Gallery in particular. I hope this very moody image is only the first of many image posts (and comments) we see from you!
I like the mood of this shot - that fog adds a very nice feel to the image. Compositionally what you've done works for me as well. I do wonder if a little selective sharpening of the head region would add to the image - to my eye the head looks slightly less sharp than the neck region. And, I don't know if it's the fog or the angle you shot this at, but for some reason the head almost looks disproportionately large compared to the size of the deer's body - this is simply an observation and I'm not implying that you did anything incorrect (or can really do anything about it now). It will be interesting to see if others notice the same thing...
Cheers...looking forward to seeing more from you in the future...

I think this is a fine image. My observation is that red deer appear(based on NPN viewings) larger in head and neck proportionally to the rest of the body than North America's elk and it probably jumps out to those who of us who are used to seeing only elk. I think the perspective here might accentuate that...I am interested in the squarish crop, although the composition of the deer within the frame looks just right. Was this taken as a horizontal or vertical?

I love the atmosphere the fog adds to the image and of course that open calling mouth. He sure has made a mess of his rack.

Hi Jeff, welcome to NPN! I like this moody image quite a bit and feel the low contrast works well here. I am not too fond of the square presentation and would rather have seen more space to the left, but that is entirely a personal preference. Hope to see more of your images in this gallery.

Too good, love the mood and the soft colors due to the mist here. The antler too seemed to be in a good mood :)

Welcome to NPN Jeff and what a nice first image, very moody! Altough I'm not as anti-square crop as most of us here I do feel that in this instance a little mroe room o the left would have improved the image, which is a little nit pickping because this is a very fine image! Hope to see more of your work soon!
