Another bird, another wire.
I looked for the id of this bird on my books without result.
This pic was taken in NM near Alamogordo.
Can you help me?
Thank you very much.

The ID: the small, pointy bill and the tiny, whiskery feathers around the base of the bill (technically, "vibrissae") tell you it is a flycatcher. The tawny orange wash from mid-chest to the base of the tail is found in NM only in the Say's Phoebe. The barely visible, light frosting on the edges of the primaries confirm the ID.

The photo: a good capture of a classic flycatcher pose. The angle is steep but unavoidable here. Nice work.

Monica,

I would agree with Jim on the ID.

I like the warm tones of the bird against the cooler sky background, the angle of the wire the bird is perched on and the light in the bird's eye. The warm light really helps make the bird stand out well too.

Yep, and more birds to come--even from me!
Nice, simple but effective shot, Monica. I have one suggestion: crop the right side so the wire runs from corner to corner; the empty space on the right here really does not add anything for me--since the subject is very simple, might as well make the geometry as well

Thanks guys and gals for your precious comments.
Stan, I had thought about a geometric crop but the bird seemed to me too centered.
Following your tip, here is the geometric version. :wavey:

Monica, I think the crop is an improvement, although if your concerned about centering you could always crop more  It's just my personal opinion, but my philosophy is that if the negative space isnt "adding" something to the shot (increasing its visual impact), then one ought to try to reduce the space as much as possible, to highlite the main subject. So long as there is some space around the side/edges (and thats not an issue here) I dont see any disadvantage to cropping away--just my take. :wavey:
