Autumn Decay..Fall Theme

I shot this a few years back and I've always liked it. I like the differeing textures of the leaf, lichen and rock. The detail is being killed with the compression. Such is life!

Critiques and suggestion are always welcomed.

Nikon D70, iso 200

PS...My apologies for not commenting a bit more on recent images. I've been dog sitting for a week for my daughter's dog in NYC. Shall be posting images from there once I get caught up with mundane things in life such as laundry, bills, groceries etc!!!

Nice warm lighting there and an interesting backdrop full of Lichen. Nice setting for a decaying Maple Leaf. Good Photo  .

A horizontal may also look nice here.

PS : Saw your reply. Cannot argue with that one

Thanks, Ram. I've shown it horizontaly and sometimes people then say I could show it vertically  Go figure

A somewhat more 'thoughtful' shot than most, in the sense it makes me pause and examine it. The mix of textures and colors really work together well.

Good eye for details, Beth. Nice example of another side of fall.

Love this one Beth. Great textures, color and light. Ideally, for my tastes the leaf would be turned slightly downward. I feel like it's facing to the right and that there should be more room in front of it - no reason to feel that way of course. It's not a bird or animal. I like this image a lot.

Beth, almost anything is too much compression for lichens! The detail and texture are really fine, nevertheless, and the comp and colors seem perfect. I like this a lot.

Minus the red, the leaf is an extension of the rock. If this was presented in black and white I think the leaf would be just barely visible (if at all). While dog-sitting have you been shooting in NYC?

Very interesting shapes and textures Beth. I think I would prefer this as a horizontal. Nice shot!

Beth: Having a grand dog can be tough  . I can see why you like it and agree with your own assessments. I might be one who would prefer this horizontal as well although a good 75%+ of my shots are verticals. A great find and capture no matter the orientation. Well done.>=))>
