Fall Color Pitcher

Sarracenia purpurea

I made this image today (Oct. 12) in the Wisconsin Beulah Bog State Natural Area in the southeast corner of the state. As fall progresses both the pitchers and the underlying sphagnum lose their chlorophyll turning them this deep red color.

Nikon 700; Nikkor 200mm 1:4; 0.5s at f/22 -0.67, ISO 200; Tripod

Comments and criticisms always welcome.

What a find. The pitchers are intricate, different from plants I've seen. And the small bg flowers add even more interest.

David, I had no sense of scale for these plants until I saw a few in person myself. Superb photo of this insectivorous plant - particularly love the fine details near the opening.

One of the better shots of this species IMO. I appreciate seeing the downward-pointing hairs clearly, and the water in the pitcher, as well as the lovely colors.

Incredible capture, David. This pitcher plant has presence! I'm torn between wanting an OOF background the better to concentrate on the textures and shape of this plant, and liking it just as it is--for context--because the pitcher has no problem dominating.
