Egretta rufescens

Taken on the dark side of a lagoon near the mangroves at a nearby county park on Ocotber 10th, 2008. As much I enjoyed watching the reddish egrets dance while hunting I also enjoyed watching them when they were still.

D200, HH, sitting in the lagoon, f6.3, 1/350, ISO 400, 80-400mm VR at 330mm with the lens just above the water, natural light, 52% of original image.

As always, I sincerely appreciate your comments & critiques, thank you for looking.

Lia:
Wonderful Reddish Egret image. The dark background works so well, with the streak of green behind the bird and the distorted reflection of the bird in the foreground. That the reflection of the legs remain distinct through the distortion is a positive feature for me. :toast:

Beautiufl, Lia. I like the concentration evident in the bird. The low angle really paid off here. :toast:

Absolutely beautiful Lia, the entire image could not have been composed and finished better if you were doing it as a painting. I love the intense look of the egret and the calm water and BG. Very well done!

One of the best reddish egret images I have seen. I love the pose and the setting. The distored reflection is perfect for this IMO. Nice low angle as usual. Well done.

I like this, Lia, and sure miss those Reddish Egrets down in your old stomping grounds, and the low-key lighting adds to the intimacy. I like the fact that you have framed a generous portion of the negative space below the bird. Might just be my perception, but the puddling and water motion right at the feet suggest it could use a hair of CCW rotation. Nicely cropped and very good as usual!

Lia, this is just outstanding in every way. I hope you're finding enough birds to photograph out there in Utah!

The low angle is what takes this image over the top for me Lia. Looks a bit tilted in the clockwise direction, but beautiful image regardless.

I love watching them too. They are quite amusing! Well done Lia with a great reflection and good colors to the water. The feather detail is nice too

It's easy to agree with everyone else about this image, Lia. Beautiful. I especially like the unusual colors and great detail. Also, it's fun to note that one leg seems wider than the other. I guess that it must be because the legs are flatter on one side than the other and the bird is standing splay footed. :toast:

My thanks for the comments & critiques thus far on this image.

Carol, I have not had much free time to edit the images I have taken so far in Utah because of work and other projects I am involved in, but I am finding many birds here to photograph and many are species I didn't see in FL or are in a different plumage phase than I saw there.
