downed tree and rain storm

I caught this rain storm while driving round Lake Crescent in the Olympic National Park on the recent PNWNP outing.

I have another composition which is perhaps more dramatic, <a href="http://www.ianpainter.net/Lake Crescent tree in rain 2cnh.html" target="_blank">available here</a>.

I can't decide which I prefer (not that I have to choose :-) ).

cheers,
Ian.

yo ian,

very nice.

have you given any thought to spending the next year or so of your life to photographing only in inclement conditions?

seriously.

Oh so very lovely, Ian! THe branches sticking out of the water add curlique lines I like very much. And the blues are wonderful! Love it!

Fabulous photographs Ian.

I like them both - they are quite different in some respects. I probably have a slight preference for the wider view - but probably only because I gravitate towards that kind of photograph personally. The tighter view has more mystery.

I love photographing in bad weather primarily because of the moods that are possible. (Well ok, I don't expecially love the actual process of photographing in bad weather - but I do love the possible results.)

Cheers,
Eric

Ian, both of these shots are awesome, so I wouldn't even bother trying to choose between them. The branches sticking up look like little Dr. Seussian trees. Great vision!!

I like this. The near-far relationship with the mountains in the background really makes this shot. It's a very interesting way to make use of this technique.

Actually, I seem to have got into the habit of photographing mostly in the rain. I think it may have gotten to be a problem, I've been known to curse when I see that the weather forcast for the upcoming weekend is sunny. Some think I'm a little strange.

cheers,
Ian.

Now THIS is cool!! Very well done!! :toast: I looked at the other comp on this..and I think that would be a hard decision for sure - both of them work extremely well - so don't choose

Ian, wonderful moody, mystical images. Both are extremely strong in their own right. :toast:

Ian: I like both of these shots. While the main subject is the same the feel is considerably different. Very well done on both counts. ><>

Awesome, love the mood.
It took me awhile to figure out exactly what I was looking at treewise. That would be the only part of the composition that I like about the other. It is easier to see the main tree. nice perspective

Ian,

I like this version best! Love the near-far relationship of the tree to the distant misty mountains. Love the mood of this image! Awesome!

I find both compositions very effective, but I personally seem to like this one here a bit more.

I looked for this because it was chosen as a editor's pick. It should be an editor's pick, great photograph. It is much different than the usual pretty picture, but it is very pretty. What sets it apart is the sense of being shown something cool. "Hey, look at this."

I think this photograph is much better than the tighter framing that omits the mountains.

My only wish is that the bottom left corner and right middle edge messes were not there. Then again, perhaps that's what makes the rest of it so moving?

Regards, Pete D.
