Morning Light, Palouse

A huge convection cloud formed just as the sun was coming up creating some fantastic lighting over the newly green, frost covered hills in the Palouse. Comments and suggestions are very welcome. Thanks for looking. Chip

This is really nice Chip. I really like the golden light leading right to the frost covered hills. A great contrast of elements.

fabulous light, chip. i wonder only about the white balance of the FG hills and wonder if they shouldn't be a touch warmed as well? there's one blotch of warmth on them? beautiful scene though, captured well.

I kept those a touch cooler, as they were in the shade, and the light shinning through the clouds was really golden. I'll experiment with it. Thanks for the comments!

Chip, this is some absolutely stunning light here. Your Palouse work is a real stand-out in your portfolio and this is no exception.

I do think this image is a better fit for Man and Nature though, since most of the landscape shows obvious signs of man's influence and there are at least a few visible roads.

That sure is some stunning lighting, Chip. Wonderfully composed and captured. I love the form of the smooth rolling hills in the dawn light. The different colored fg hill makes this shot even more interesting. Excellent!

Absolutely stunning!
Masterful processing, as well.

I rarely visit this gallery (...and this image may help change that), and I really think that you should post this back in ES&S. I doubt that anyone would care, and this deserves a much wider audience.

I will only repeat, Stunning Light! Magical! Great comp, don't change a thing. An effective use of your glow technique, or luminosity masks whichever it was.

Love the light. The foreground colors look a bit weird on my screen, but might be my work monitor. Minor, though, sweet image!!!!!!!

This is great and I think it works very well as is. I also think it would work very well by cropping some of the dark clouds from the top... both would be successful images but they would impart a very different feeling... :toast:

The light and color in this shot is amazing, but it is the way that that light brings out the contours on the land that make this shot special in my opinion. Great work.

The revised version is over the top, IMO.
I'm surprised to see it actually, after the unanimous praise the original garnered.

This has gotta be up there as one of your best. Of the two I prefer the first version, the subtlety of the light and tones really sets an atmosphere and feeling to the image the second version just doesn't seem to match.

Amazing! The Palouse is stunning anyway, but this... Wow! I LOVE how the light works in this with the rays coming down and creating the contrast of cool and warm greens. I can almost follow the one ray right to where it kisses the fg hill. :toast:

Thanks for the comments! Maybe I shouldn't have messed with it. I was trying to correct a slight green color cast, and make the cloud up top a bit less dark...Hopefully I got it back.

I originally posted it in ESS, but it was moved due to the evidence of man-roads etc.

Way to go on the EP for this truly spectacular shot, Chip!

The repost is brighter and more airy looking and I like it too. Tough to choose between them. :toast:
