final slog

each morning, particularly during the 'season', 100s of trekkers slog up a large scree slope to catch dawn at the top of kilimanjaro. i was lucky enough to avoid this 'coca-cola' route, choosing to spend a (rather oxygen-starved and chilly!) night in the crater. we summitted alone late in the afternoon the previous day. here are some of those trekkers, pausing briefly before tackling the final 45mins to the summit. they'd be there just after sunrise ...

thanks for looking; comments welcome; large file provided so that you can see the silhoutted people better.

D300, 80-200mm @ 86mm, ISO 1000, 1/30, f2.8 (yes, it was pretty dark)

Pretty cool, Stuart. I like simple shots like this that really show the insignificance of man and how we're little more than dots on the horizon.

A bit hard to appreciate on the small version so I'm really glad you put up the large one. Lovely light and the use of scale is mighty effective.

Cool image. The small version doesn't do it justice, nor does the thumbnail. The silhouetted people look so tiny and make a very interesting element in the shot. The range of soft colors is nice and keeps with the simple theme of the image. Well done.

Awesome! I think this would look much better cropped as a long pano, a lot of that blue sky is kind of 'wasted' space. Those people in the shot are a great element!

Very nice Stuart. I love the sense of scale! I would only tackle the noise in the blue sky. Congrats :toast:

I Agree with the pano crop, I think it would be perfect for this. And such a Great, simple and effective shot. I can almost stare like that are standing up there. I feel like I am there. Very cool shot.
